The early alarm is worth it again. Passenger hot air balloon flights have returned to Luxor after the summer pause, bringing colour back to the skies above the West Bank. For travellers planning a Nile-side stay, the news puts one of the city’s most memorable morning experiences back on the itinerary.
Have Luxor balloon flights restarted?
Yes. Youm7’s report dated 24 September described the second day of passenger flights, confirming their return on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. Separate reporting from Sada El Balad recorded sunrise departures on 24 September. That is welcome news, but it is a dated update rather than a guarantee for every future morning. Confirm availability for your travel dates: weather, aviation clearance and the operator’s schedule still determine whether a particular departure goes ahead.
Why a West Bank base suits a balloon morning
Balloon departures take place on Luxor’s West Bank. Staying on that side of the Nile can simplify the journey to the launch area, although the actual collection route depends on the operator and any other guests being picked up. An East Bank hotel or cruise ship may involve a river crossing or road transfer; ask how yours will work rather than assuming every package uses the same route.
For your accommodation, look beyond a map pin. Confirm that your host can arrange access for a very early pickup, that the driver has the correct meeting point, and that you know how to contact the team before dawn. - Arrival day: settle in, confirm the balloon contact and pickup point, and have an early night.
- First full morning: take the balloon flight if conditions allow. Leave the rest of the morning flexible.
- Second full morning: keep this as a possible alternative if the first flight is cancelled; organise sightseeing with that flexibility in mind.
- Departure day: avoid making this your only chance to fly, especially with a fixed train or airport transfer.
